If your idea is good enough, the organization will choose you and give you a mentor with whom you will work for three months. About Internship
Spend your summer break earning a stipend while creating code and learning about open source development. Students that are accepted work with a mentor and join the open-source community. Many people go on to work as open-source developers for the rest of their lives.
This is a remote internship (work from home). There is no necessity to travel as part of the program. All growth takes place online.
Duration
From June 13, 2022, to November 28, 2022, the Google Summer Internship will be available. During this time, students will work with mentors on their projects.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for Google Summer of Code must meet the following requirements:
- All international students, regardless of their country of origin, are eligible.
- You must be a citizen of a country that is not currently embargoed by the US.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. university students are eligible to apply.
- Age must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be new to open source.
- Must be able to work in their home country for the duration of the program.
Google Internship Process
Students:
Students make contact with the mentor organizations they want to collaborate with and develop a summer project proposal. Students who are approved spend a month integrating with their groups before beginning to code. After then, students have three months to code while adhering to the deadlines set by their mentors.
Organizations:
Mentor organizations are open to open source initiatives. After being selected, organizations meet with students to discuss potential ideas before deciding which proposals to mentor for the summer. They assign mentors to each student to assist them in completing the program.
Mentors:
Mentoring a student project is an option for existing contributors to the organizations. Mentors and students collaborate to develop appropriate summer milestones and criteria. Interaction with mentors is an important aspect of the curriculum.
