About MEXT Scholarship
MEXT stands for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), which is offering scholarships in Japanese universities for 2022-2023. There are three types of MEXT Scholarships:
- Bachelors Scholarships: Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling in a country other than Japan are considered bachelor students.
- Masters Scholarships: Applicants who have completed 16 years of schooling in a country other than Japan are eligible for the master’s program.
- Doctoral Scholarships: Applicants who have completed 18 years of schooling in a country other than Japan are eligible for the doctoral program.

Eligibility Criteria
- All international students are eligible for the scholarship.
- Be a citizen of a MEXT member country.
- Intend to study in Japan while living abroad.
- You must have been born on or after April 2, 1988.
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a scale of 3.00 at their most recent university.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
On the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale, a B2 or higher result on the English Proficiency test is equal (e.g. TOEFL iBT 72 or above, IELTS 5.5 or above).
Students who attended an English language institute can submit an English Proficiency Certificate from their university and are excused from the language test.
