Scholarship Benefits

  • Research Training Program Stipend of upto $28,597 per year
  • Accommodation Allowance of up to $21,447 per year

Duration of Scholarship

The Forrest Research Foundation Scholarship can last up to four years, but it is contingent on the scholarship bearer showing adequate progress, as specified in the RTP Scholarship terms and conditions. Therefore:

  1. The scholarship will be provided for a three-year term as an initial period.
  2. Scholarship recipients can apply for up to a 12-month extension of their scholarship by applying for two sets of six-month extensions (one at a time).
  3. Extensions are granted only if the student is making sufficient progress and the reasons for the extension are attributable to research delays that are beyond the student’s control.
  4. If work has not proceeded during the first six-month extension, a second six-month extension will not be allowed.
  5. Because an RTP Stipend cannot be prolonged beyond 3.5 years, the stipend and housing component of the second six-month extension will be similar to the Forrest Scholar’s previous arrangements.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students from all nationalities are eligible to apply.
  • A bachelor’s degree with First Class Honors or equivalent, such as a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.8/4.0, is required.
  • Applicants are typically in the top 5% of their graduating class. The current Forrest Scholars have an average GPA of 3.95/4.00.
  • Forrest Scholars are supposed to live in a Forrest Hall apartment (exemptions may be considered in special circumstances in accordance with the Scholarship Conditions).
  • Scholars will be chosen from a pool of foreign and Australian applicants who have demonstrated an exceptional academic capacity to do research that has the potential to transform the world.
